Bespoke commissions at Necktie Sculpture are accepted from a fixed roster of eighty clients per year. Each piece is sculpted by hand in our Brooklyn atelier, signed by the studio, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a twenty-five-year restoration guarantee.

We do not run a configurator. We accept a small number of commissions each year because the work is hand-sculpted, not manufactured, and we cannot make a piece for someone whose brief we cannot answer to in person.
Our current books include the wardrobe team of a Broadway revival now in its third year on tour, and three Academy Award-nominated actors. We will not name them here; their privacy is part of the contract.

Every commission passes through the same five stages. Each stage is led by a named member of the atelier. None of them are skipped.

I.
Inquiry
You write to the studio with a short letter: who you are, why you want a piece, and what occasion, if any, it is for. We read every inquiry personally and reply within ten working days. Inquiries are reviewed in monthly batches, not on demand.

II.
Consultation
A one-hour conversation, in person at the Brooklyn atelier or by video. We discuss silhouette, weight, occasion, and how the piece should sit against your existing wardrobe. No sketches are produced at this stage; we listen first.

III.
Material Selection
Materials are drawn from six family-run mills we have worked with for an average of nine years — in Como, Kyoto, and Edinburgh. We send a small set of physical swatches to your address before any cutting begins. The swatch set is yours to keep.

IV.
Sculpting
The piece is hand-formed in our 4,200 sq ft Garment District workshop, by one of four full-time sculptors. Average finishing time is eleven hours; signature 'Folded Origami' pieces require twenty-two and are released in runs of exactly seven. You receive progress notes at three checkpoints.

Delivery & Guarantee
Each piece ships with a numbered certificate of authenticity, an archival care kit, and our twenty-five-year restoration guarantee — handled in-house by our conservator, who trained at the Metropolitan Museum's Sherman Fairchild Center.

Full provenance for each piece is held on file at the atelier and may be requested in writing by the named client or their estate.
Six things we are
often asked.
If the answers below do not address what is in your head, write to the studio anyway. We would rather answer a thoughtful question in person than decline a brief on paper.
- How long does a commission take, end to end?
- Twelve months on average, from first letter to delivery. A piece may take longer if material sourcing requires it. We do not rush.
- What is the pricing floor for bespoke work?
- Bespoke commissions begin at $4,200. The final figure is set after the consultation in chapter II, once material, hours, and run size are agreed in writing.
- Where do the materials come from?
- Six family-run mills in Como, Kyoto, and Edinburgh, with relationships averaging nine years. We will not name a specific mill unless it is publicly documented; that is a standing studio rule.
- What does the restoration guarantee cover?
- Twenty-five years of in-house restoration, handled by our conservator. The guarantee covers structural repair, re-shaping of sculptural folds, and re-edging. It does not cover loss or deliberate alteration.
- Will the studio reuse my design for someone else?
- No. A commission belongs to one client and is produced in a run of one. The studio retains the right to photograph the work for its own archive; it does not retain the right to reproduce the design.
- Is my inquiry — and my brief — confidential?
- Yes. We do not publish client names without written consent. Inquiries that do not result in a commission are held for twelve months and then deleted on request.
